  • 2 medium onions (diced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 34 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans red kidney beans (drained)
  • 2 cups broth (beef, chicken, or vegetable)

Instructions

  1. In a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, sauté diced onions until soft. Add salt, cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, sugar, and tomato paste; cook for another minute.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce; bring to a simmer.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the pot along with kidney beans and broth. Simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes until heated through.
