  • 1 large round loaf of crusty bread (sourdough recommended)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper until well mixed.
  3. Cut diagonal slits in the bread about 1 inch apart, taking care not to cut all the way through.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture between the cuts.
  5. If using cheese, sprinkle it in between the cuts as well.
  6. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil with the top slightly open and bake for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Unwrap and bake for another 5-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
